Cyanotype, also known as sun printing, is the oldest photographic printing process. It produces blue images and is therefore also called (iron) blue printing.
This printing technique was invented by the natural scientist Sir John Herschel in 1842. In 1843. Anna Atkins, a natural scientist and illustrator used the process to photographically document plant leaves and flowers.
Cyanotype is experiencing a real comeback today – especially from an artistic perspective. It’s incredibly fun to experiment with it, and my images are all unique. For me, it’s a wonderful way to share my photography of the landscape and beautiful nature in Portugal.  In the same time I create a individual piece of art.

Description

How it works:
1. Prepare the solution
In this step, I already work in my darkroom. Because the solution is light-sensitive.
2. Coat the paper
I use high-quality, medium-grain, pH-neutral, acid-free, and wood-free watercolor paper.
3. Arrange and secure the motive
I photographed all of my motives myself. I use the negatives of my photographs for the work.
4. Exposure
I expose using the power of the Portuguese Sun, and this is the most beautiful step for me.
5. Wash & Dry
In this step, the paper is bathed and then dried. The images may develop slight ripples during this process.
